Theme: Prophets - 2009-05-05

Title: Their role

Message:

I have been looking at prophets and their roles in the word of the Lord, how they were heralds of the word of the Lord, but a word that God gave me about them was proclaimers. Men and women who proclaimed the word of the Lord. Most of these prophets and prophetesses were loners, men and women who flashed in and out of people's lives, some of these people were amazing in their boldness, in their bravery, in their lifestyle, but the main thing they all had was their trust in God. They were so comfortable with their relationship with God they knew the heart of God and God knew their hearts. For instance Enoch was to bring a warning of judgment Jude14-15 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. So the role of the prophet is to bring the word of the Lord and in this case a warning. Then there was Abraham who was an intercessor Genesis 20:7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine. We see this role as well in Genesis 18 when Abraham in boldness interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah. And Moses as a prophet was an intercessor the number of times we see him on his face interceding for Israel. Numbers 14:5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. We can also see Miriam the prophetess led the women in praise and worship after the defeat of the Egyptians in the Red Sea. Exodus 15:20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. She was musical and there is that musical edge to some prophets and prophetesses. There is that singing in the prophetic, but it is not the main, we need to know that the role of the prophet and prophetess does not just stop and sing the prophetic there is a wide spectrum of the prophetic and singing the prophetic is just part of that. Then we have God had chosing Moses to be a leader and prophet to Israel, so much so that God would raise up a prophet like unto him Deuteronomy 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. Moses role was one of leadership, even though he was a prophet he lead the people. He also listened to God, and spoke what the Lord commanded him to speak. One of the roles of the prophet and prophetess is to listen to God and to speak forth what He has said to them, one of the ways we listen is hearing his word, another way we listen is when we are in the secret place with God, we know Moses spent the time with God, he had spent 40 days with, in the mountains with Him, we know also he brought the word of the Lord to the people. Deuteronomy 34:10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. The we have Deborah the prophetess Judges 4:4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. She judged Israel, as prophetess she had this leadership quality. In reading this chapter Deborah was one who sought the Lord, she give the word of the Lord to Barak, a confirmation of what the Lord had already said to him. The prophets and prophetesses word is to confirm the word that has already been spoken. A role of confirmation. I will be giving more in the next update of this site about prophets and their roles. I believe we are living in the days when prophets need to rise up with the word of God, to give direction to the church, to give correction to the church, to give encouragement to the church, to give warning to the church, to give confirmation to the church. As  have seen the roles of the prophets in the Old Testament, I believe there will be modern prophets rising up with the same boldness and bravery of those O.T. prophets.
